Hotel description and useful information for travellers

Cleanliness

Mixed to negative: several guests reported mold smell, a visible cockroach, crumbling popcorn ceiling and a clogged tub — cleanliness issues were noted in multiple reviews.

Service

Mixed but generally positive: some guests found receptionists rude and unaccommodating, while others highlighted helpful staff, a kind breakfast attendant and an exceptional manager.

Location

Strong positive consensus: repeatedly praised for proximity to trains, UIC, Union Station and easy transit access (blue line right on the corner).

Room Quality

Mixed: some rooms described as beautiful and well-sized, but complaints include highway noise (single-pane windows), uncomfortable sleep sofa, maintenance issues and variable room amenities.

Amenities

Generally positive: rooftop pool frequently praised and enjoyed; however there is no full restaurant/bar (only breakfast service), no hot tub, and in-room microwaves are inconsistent.

Value for Money

Negative: multiple guests called the hotel overpriced (one cited an excessive one-night charge), with additional costs for parking and high breakfast prices lowering perceived value.

Convenient Location and Comfortable Accommodation

Located just a few blocks from the iconic Sears Tower, the Holiday Inn Chicago Downtown offers a prime city center location for both business and leisure travelers. The comfortable rooms provide a relaxing retreat after a day of exploring the vibrant city of Chicago.
